If you want your morning to work for you, you need to work on your morning routine. It’s that simple, or at least it’s that easy to say. It may take a little extra work to get there, but it’s definitely worth the work. A great morning routine can set you off on the right foot for the rest of your day. What you do to start your day can impact how the rest of the day goes. It can carry you through on a positive note or a negative one. But, how and what should you do to make your mornings go better?
First things first, start the night before. Think about what you can do to make your mornings easier by considering what you can do before bedtime. Here are a couple things to consider:
- Do you pack a lunch? Pack it the night before.
- Choose your outfit and have it ready to go in the morning.
- Drink coffee? Get everything ready for your morning cup.
These are just a few things you can do the night prior to be better prepared for the next day. The other very important step is setting a bedtime and sticking to it. It will make it that much easier for you to get up in the morning.
When you’re ready to start your day, don’t reach for your phone first. Facebook and email can wait until later. First, take time to stretch your body and fuel your mind. Give yourself a big enough time window that you can take it slow. Read something inspirational, journal, breathe deeply, allow yourself to wake up with ease.
Make sure you have water at the ready because when you’re dehydrated it can be draining. Start your day with water and make sure to also get a balanced breakfast. The right food can help you stay full and energized for longer.
Morning exercise can also help set you off on the right foot. Can you fit in a morning walk?
Now take these ideas and formulate a plan that works for you. What time do you need to get up in the morning to fit everything in that you want to accomplish? What time would you need to go to bed to make this happen? Write down what your plan is and work towards making it happen. When your morning goes right, your day is more likely to as well.
